After watching This Is Spinal Tap last night, Bridget and I both agreed that if you didn’t know that the film was a mockumentary, you probably wouldn’t guess that the band is a “fake.”

And with hits like Heavy Duty, Hell Hole and Flower People…I wish they were a real band!

Don’t need a woman, I won’t take me no wife.
I got the rock and roll and that’ll be my life.
No page in history baby- that, I don’t need,
I just want to make some eardrums bleed.
Heavy, duty, Heavy duty rock and roll
Heavy duty, Brings out the duty in my soul

Indeed.

Honestly, it has been a while since I have really wanted to buy a music album.

Usually, I am too tempted to download just  those tunes which strike my fancy. However, today, I was reminded of an LP that I once let slip through my fingers, Drums Not Dead by Liars.

Acclaimed as one of the greatest songs released since 1977, I must agree, The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack is a fantastic, captivating and riveting single.

Just see Liars in person, there is no denying that the men are legends.
I must buy this LP.

I think that my mother raised me to be addicted to synth. She had me listen to way too much Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics and now there is a constant synthesizer line running in my head.
I like this song. Pitchfork had it on their list a few years ago.

On a side note: dream job would be writing pop lyrics. That’s how GaGa started out, you know? Think of how easy that would be during this decade. I wrote a song about texting, in my head, the other day. I should try to sell it to Russell for $26 a word.

And in case you want to know what you are listening to, it’s a remix of Air’s Mer du Japon. More proof that the French do it better. Their music still tells a (broken, depressing, heart-wrenching) story. I wonder if there are any parallels between Air and Hiroshima, Mon Amour.

May 10th.
5/10/2010.

If you live in the Rochester, Buffalo, Western N.Y. region, you are going to want to save that date because one of the greatest magistrates of Rock is headed this way. The band whose music shakes your soul and whose frontman makes you think, “Is his face contorting like that because he is in pain…or is he just possessed by the power of ROCK?!” is headed this way.
Yes people, PEARL JAM PEARL JAM PEARL JAM.
I can’t say it enough.

Pearl Jam…your favorite natural stone and a deliciously sweet treat that you like to enjoy on toast…what combination could be more unpredictable? Put together, ear-splitting, heart haunting tunes are produced. That is Pearl Jam.

Ticket prices are starting at $69 and they’ll be at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo with some band named Band of Horses.
Rovers Morning Glory was actually giving away tickets this morning, and I am sure that 94.1 the Zone will give some tickets away as the date gets closer. I would only want to go if I could get near the stage. I’d have to see Vedders facial expressions up close; his face is art in motion!

Benovic Bradley Song of the Day
January 26 2010 : Party Hard by Andrew W.K.

Who knew that someone out there still made music like this? Who knew that people still listened to music like this? And who the hell is Andrew W.K.?

A party rocker, a nightclub owner, some people say that “Andrew W.K.” is a marketing room creation, a “music personality” played by more than one man, if you will. Whoever Andrew W.K. is, he makes music to get 30-year old male bar-goers excited…It’s a large demographic, people!

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of this song, but I am intrigued by the controversy surrounding Andrew. If it is true that Andrew W.K. is really a “brand” or a collective of people acting as one man, performing as one man….then I have go to give a huge pat on the back to the record industry, because they’ve turned music into acting. Or I should say…the ability to be a good popular musician has now been equated with one’s ability to play a role, act a part.

I don’t know if this is true for Andrew W.K., because he appears to have been on the music scene for a while.

However, in this interview, Andrew actually admits that “Andrew W.K.” was created in “the spirit of commerce.” The idea was formed by a collective for $$$ purposes, and that he was not the same W.K. who performed on the I Get Wet album…Stunning stuff.

Feel duped? It just makes me wonder how many other people in the music industry, or any industry, are pulling this switcheroo. I think it’s genius, it’s also a smart move on behalf of the musicians and record labels. Just think, any time some band tension sparks up…you can just swap out your lead singer for a newer model. It seems like some pretentious front men would have more of a verbal fist fight with this than others, but pay them off enough…and I’m sure that would keep them quiet…At least until the E! True Hollywood Story starts filming.

At any rate, this guy is part-owner to Santos Party House, which is supposed to be a premiere NYC clubbing establishment. He’s even there to D.J. and host open question sessions, so if you’re as boggled by W.K. as I am, and you’re in the NYC area—hit ‘em up!

Do what we like and we like what we do
